WELCOME TO TECNOSEAL: EXCELLENCE IN CATHODIC PROTECTION

Monitoring systems

ATOM is the Tecnoseal monitoring system that monitors the vessel’s cathodic protection status. Easy to install, it provides clear data and can be integrated with NMEA 2000 for immediate control.

WHAT THEY ARE

ATOM monitoring systems are devices that, when installed on board, continuously monitor the cathodic protection status of a vessel.

Tecnoseal monitoring system consists of a small display and a probe installed on the hull by means of a certified bronze through hull.

The probe (or reference probe) can be made of pure zinc or Silver/Silver Chloride.

The probe is connected to the display, which internally is operated by an electronic board designed to take the measurements developed by Tecnoseal.

The measuring points are realized by means of a lug connection to the part to be measured.

The system measures the voltage difference between the probe and the measuring point. This value indicates the actual level of protection of the part being measured.

The monitoring system can handle the measurement of up to six independent points. Usually, the identification points to be monitored are to be defined during the design phase. Due to the ease of installation, the ATOM can be self-installed during refitting.

The display shows all information related to cathodic protection conditions.

An easy-to-read and clear interface makes it an easy-to-interpret system for keeping track of actual cathodic protection conditions.

Read the information brochure far more details.

The way we manufacture them

ATOM monitoring systems consist of two parts:

  • Display
  • Reference probe

The Display houses the electronic board handling the measurement.

The electronic board, the software, and the graphical user interface have been realized in cooperation with a partner company responsible far developing its electronics based on the in-house developed architecture.

The board has also been developed to handle the NMEA 2000 protocol by which all information related to cathodic protection will be displayed on the dashboard.

The reference probe can be made of pure Zinc or Silver -Silver-Chloride.

lt is manufactured entirely by Tecnoseal and supplied as a kit with the display.

Based on the project specifications or simply according to the customer’s needs, Tecnoseal will provide the kit with the specifically requested configuration.

Monitoring System of Electrochemical Potentials

  • The monitoring system of the electrochemical potentials for the verification of the conditions of cathodic protection can be integrated inside the antifouling power supply panel.
  • The reference probes (1 or 2) measure the electrochemical potentials and transfer the information to the control panel.
  • The system makes it possible to constantly monitor the electrochemical potentials of the hull and appendages, in order to prevent any damage that could also be caused by unforeseen interactions with elements of the surrounding environment and wandering currents and voltages.
  • All the information displayed on the control panel can be reported in the vessel monitoring system via NMEA®2000 communication protocol (TECNOSEAL is NMEA®2000 MEMBER / NMEA®2000 MANUFACTURER).
  • The system can manage up to 48 monitor points.

The MONITORING SYSTEM is an instrument designed to constantly monitor the electrochemical potentials and therefore the state of protection against galvanic currents of  the hull, the submerged metal parts and the sea water circuit.
It is important to monitor the electrochemical potentials to verify that sacrificial anodes (or other cathodic protection systems) on hull and appendages are providing the necessary protection against galvanic corrosion.

Besides controlling the electrochemical potentials of the boat as an isolated system, the MONITORING SYSTEM is also an essential tool for assessing the interactions between the boat and the infrastructures around it under various environmental conditions.

The components of the MONITORING SYSTEM developed by TECNOSEAL are:

  • POWER SUPPLY equipped with TOUCH-SCREEN monitor control panel.
  • One or two monitoring probes (Depending on the design features it is possible to identify also the positions and the type of hull probes installation).
  • From 1 to 6 measuring points.

The power supply for the MONITORING SYSTEM is the same used for ANTIFOULING SYSTEM. Both systems may co-exist within the same power supply unit.

This solution has been designed to simultaneously host both ANTIFOULING SYSTEM and MONITORING SYSTEM upon Customer’s request, allowing to save space as well as optimizing different functions in a single device.

The system is designed to monitor up to six characteristic points of the boat and enables to display in real time the electrochemical potential values on the 7” MONITOR as well as the graph of time trends of the measured values.
In the event of situations of under protection or over protection, MONITORING SYSTEM will simultaneously alert the users of the boat and the Tecnoseal technical department through an alert.

The color TOUCH-SCREEN monitor enables to set the system and to display all electrochemical parameters of the boat in order to evaluate the cathodic protection conditions and the state of protection against galvanic currents.

As in the ANTIFOULING SYSTEM, all settings and controls of the MONITORING SYSTEM can also be managed through an application directly from the CONTROL PANEL and remotely from Tecnoseal technicians.

The electrical panel is powered by the boat 24 Volt DC.

The PORTABLE PROTECT TEST is an essential instrument for measuring the electrochemical potentials of any metal body submerged or semi-submerged in water (salt, brackish, fresh).

This instrument allows you to rapidly perform the following measurements:

  • Measurements of electrochemical potentials of metal hulls and of metal appendages on them installed.
  • Measurements of electrochemical potentials of metal appendages installed on hulls made of composite materials, carbon, glass resin and others.
  • Measurements of electrochemical potentials of metal parts constituting docks, sheet piles and any other submerged or semi-submerged metal structure.
  • Checks of the effective operation of the cathodic protection systems installed on the structure where the measurements are being performed.
  • Identification of any structures without or lacking in cathodic protection and therefore at risk of corrosion.

PORTABLE PROTECT TEST is composed of the following parts:

  • Certified multimeter.
  • Portable Ag/AgCl probe with a 15- meter long cable.

The accurate and periodic measurement of electrochemical potentials is important to be sure that sacrificial anodes (or other cathodic protection systems) installed on hulls, appendages or other structures provide the necessary protection against aggressive galvanic currents and any potential corrosion caused by them.

Tecnoseal Technical Department is available for any analysis and evaluation of the data collected during the measurement of potentials , also offering the customer its expertise and skills in carrying out studies and
Defining  solutions aimed at the planning of cathodic protection systems or at  the increment and improve of the already existing systems.
