Hybrid Cathodic Protection Systems
Hy-TEC® combines sacrificial anodes and impressed current for optimal protection. Versatile and innovative, it adapts to all navigation conditions and reduces polarization time.
WHAT THEY ARE
Hy-TEC® is Tecnoseal’s hybrid cathodic protection system against galvanic currents. It combines two sacrificial anodes with an active impressed current system. This product was developed to provide small and medium-sized hulls with a versatile cathodic protection system capable of delivering more efficient protection between haul-outs.
Hy-TEC® also supports traditional anodes in the initial polarization phase of connected structures. The technology is designed for fiberglass and composite boats and can be used in saltwater, brackish, and freshwater environments. By simply replacing the traditional anodes that work in tandem with the active system, it allows navigation anywhere in the world.

What They Protect – Key Features
Hy-TEC® delivers the necessary current to protect metal parts connected to the system, supplementing the protection provided by sacrificial anodes as they naturally wear down and maintaining the correct electrochemical potential.
The system includes a built-in monitoring probe that reads voltage and electrochemical potentials, constantly informing the control unit that regulates the activated titanium electrode. When the protection potential drops below a pre-set threshold (usually due to passive anode consumption), the booster activates and delivers current through the Ti-MMO plate to restore full protection against galvanic currents.
The probe can also be connected to our ATOM® system for continuous monitoring of the vessel’s protection potentials. Another key benefit of Hy-TEC® is its ability to accelerate the polarization process, significantly reducing activation times typical of sacrificial anodes.
It is primarily used to protect metal appendages such as: Tenderlifts, azimuth PODs, flaps, and more.
How We Make Them
The Hy-TEC® system consists of three components:
- Booster Unit – Monitors cathodic protection conditions and activates when needed to ensure optimal protection levels.
- Sacrificial Anodes – Provide passive cathodic protection to all connected metal parts.
- Base Plate – Installed on the hull; it includes through-hull studs for connecting both the passive (sacrificial anodes) and active (BOOSTER unit) protection systems.
All components are produced directly at Tecnoseal facilities. The electronic board is manufactured by one of Tecnoseal’s trusted and long-standing partners.
Why Choose Tecnoseal
Hy-TEC® is a highly specialized product that must be calibrated for each specific application.
Tecnoseal designs the ideal operating parameters of the hybrid anode based on the characteristics of the structure to be protected, ensuring maximum effectiveness.
HYBRID CATHODIC PROTECTION SYSTEM
Tecnoseal’s Hy-TEC® is a hybrid cathodic protection system composed of two sacrificial anodes and an active impressed current system. The development of this product derives from the need to equip small/medium sized hulls with a versatile cathodic protection system capable of guaranteeing more efficient protection in the intervals between one dry dock and another.
Hy-TEC® also has the function of “helping” traditional anodes in the first phase of polarization of the connected structures. The technology has been studied for applications on fiberglass and composite boats. An important feature of Hy-TEC® is its ability to work with Tecnoseal’s sacrificial anodes which are produced in the three alloys. This ensures the system works in salt, brackish and fresh water.
General Features and Operation
Hy-TEC® has the function of delivering the required current for cathodic protection of the metal parts connected to the system. It integrates the protection provided by sacrificial anodes during their natural consumption for the maintaining of the correct electrochemical potential.
The system is equipped with an integrated monitoring probe which constantly informs and regulates the control unit through voltage readings. When the values fall below a preset protection threshold (usually when the anodes have depleted) the booster comes into operation by delivering the necessary current required to protect all the metal parts against galvanic currents via the Ti-MMO plate.
The probe can also be connected with Tecnoseal’s ATOM® system for constant monitoring of the electrochemical protection potentials of the entire vessel. An additional and important function of Hy-TEC® is that the hybrid system provides acceleration of the polarization process of the connected structures. This significantly reduces the activation times expected from sacrificial anodes.
System Components
- ICCP unit – monitors the cathodic protection conditions and comes into operation in case of need in order to guarantee the correct protection values.
- Sacrificial anodes – For the passive cathodic protection of all the metallic parts that are connected to them.
- Base plate – For installing the system on the hull. The plate is equipped with hull-through pins for the connections of the two cathodic protection systems (passive via sacrificial anodes and active via BOOSTER unit).
